Events in Idyllwild
First Saturdays are major art events in Idyllwild from March through October. That's when art openings, painting festivals, art-walks, and art-tours happen.
Saturday Morning Art Cafés from May to October offer an opportunity for artists to discuss process and interact with art lovers in a casual setting in the galleries.
Art Alliance of Idyllwild 2006
March 4 "First Saturday" Idyllwild and the Eye
- Member artists create works of art around an Idyllwild theme for opportunity drawings. Live auction. Food, wine and entertainment. The Rainbow Inn on South Circle will host the Idyllwild and the Eye.
April 1, 2 "First Saturday" 8th Annual Member's Show
- An open show of works from over 75 member artists held at two Babes in the Woods Gallery. Reception Saturday, April 1 with Juror, Artist and People's choice awards.
May 6 "First Saturday " 3rd Annual Incredible Audible Gallery Walk
- Gallery Openings in member galleries. Students and faculty from Idyllwild Arts Academy will perform in the galleries. Artist personal appearances, wine and music.
June 3,4 "First Saturday" 8th Annual Juried Members’ Show
- The over 75 member artists submit their best work for jurying. Awards in photography, abstract, representation and three dimensional work are given. People's Choice and Artist Choice awards are presented at the reception on June 3.
Saturday Morning Art Cafes in June
- June 3, 10, 17, 24 A different gallery hosts this educational event each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Artists demonstrate their techniques and processes in a casual environment. Coffee and pastries by local restaurants.
July 1 "First Saturday" 3-D Art Festival and Gallery Tour
- Gallery openings in member galleries feature three dimensional artists in clay, glass, fiber, furniture, jewelry, and mixed media. Artist members of the Art Alliance demonstrate process and technique in the gardens of the Idyllwild Area Historical Society.

- July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 A different gallery hosts this educational experience with artists each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
August 5 "First Saturday" Art Treasure Hunt and Gallery Walk
- This new event invites participants on a treasure hunt through the member galleries where guest artists host exhibitions of new work. Prizes are art treasures. Wine and music.
Saturday Morning Art Cafes in August
- August 5, 12, 19, 26, Learn about the artistic process from local artists each Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
September 2,3 "First Saturday" 5th Annual Plein Air Art Festival
- View the progress of artist’s creations around the village of Idyllwild on Saturday. Mimosa reception and jurors awards on Sunday. See finished work and vote for People's Choice. Hosted by the Rainbow Inn on South Circle.
Saturday Morning Art Cafes in September
- September 2, 9, 16, 23: Discover a new creative approach from local artists from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Saturday in a different gallery.
October 7 "First Saturday" 9th Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting
- Stroll the streets of Idyllwild with your wine glass, to the ambiance of live music and special exhibits in member galleries. Proceeds are committed to art education.
